Excursions across Brisbane

The regular Brisbane excursion destinations each have their own coach arrangements. South Bank's Cultural Precinct — the Museum, Sciencentre, GOMA and the State Library — has a coach set-down on Grey Street and a booking system for it on busy days. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary at Fig Tree Pocket has coach parking on site. The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium at Mt Coot-tha has a bus bay but limited turning room for the largest coaches. Sports carnivals at QSAC in Nathan and swimming at Sleeman in Chandler run to a timetable and the drop-off zones are shared with other schools, so arrival slots matter. We know these sites and we build the run around their rules, which is most of what a school is paying for.

Sizing follows the class list plus staff. A 57-seat coach carries two classes with supervising teachers; a 21-seat minibus suits a small group or a specialist excursion. All vehicles are seatbelted, and the school's own supervision ratios apply on the bus as they do at the destination.

School camps

Camp transport is a drop on day one and a collection on the last day, quoted as two one-way runs with the vehicle not held in between. The regular Brisbane-area camp sites — the Sunshine Coast hinterland around Maleny and Montville, the Gold Coast hinterland, Tamborine Mountain, Lake Moogerah and the Lockyer Valley, the Moreton Bay coast — are one to two hours out, and several have access roads that limit vehicle size, which we confirm before quoting. Luggage is the practical issue: a year level with camp bags fills a coach's under-floor storage, and a trailer is added for the larger groups.

Contract and recurring runs

Daily or weekly contract runs — a morning and afternoon service between suburbs and a school, a shuttle between campuses, a weekly run to a sports ground or swimming pool — are quoted per term with the timetable, vehicle size and any exam-period or excursion-day variations set out in one schedule. The same drivers are allocated to the same runs wherever possible so the students and the school office know who to expect.

Formals, graduations and special events

School formals are booked well ahead because they fall in the same September-to-November window as weddings. The usual shape is a school-to-venue run and a venue-to-school or venue-to-suburbs return, with the venue — riverside function rooms, hotels in the CBD, the Showgrounds — dictating the set-down. Graduation ceremonies at the University of Queensland and QUT, and inter-school events at the Convention Centre, are quoted the same way.
