Mining & FIFO Transport from the Gold Coast

Mining and FIFO transport from the Gold Coast and Tweed: early crew runs to Brisbane and Gold Coast airports, induction shuttles and Surat Basin charters.

A large share of Queensland's FIFO workforce lives on the Gold Coast and across the border in the Tweed, and almost none of them fly from here: the charter and commercial flights to the Bowen and Surat Basins leave Brisbane's domestic terminal, 80 to 100 kilometres north. The mining transport we run from the coast is therefore mostly the crew run — suburban pick-ups from Coolangatta to Coomera in the small hours, up the M1 to the terminal for the first flights — plus induction-week shuttles and the occasional direct site charter.

Crew runs to Brisbane Airport

The first FIFO flights board at Brisbane between 4.30am and 6.30am, which from the southern Gold Coast means a 2am pick-up. We run these as scheduled services on the roster cycle with a fixed pick-up sequence — typically a southern collection through Coolangatta, Currumbin and Burleigh, a central point at Broadbeach or Southport, and a northern stop at Helensvale or Coomera before the M1 — and the same driver where possible. Return runs meet the evening flights and drop in reverse. The M1 at that hour is reliable; the variable is the Gateway Motorway toll approach to the airport, which is itemised on the quote.

Crews travel with gear, and that decides the vehicle. A 21-seater with a trailer or a 30-seat coach with under-floor luggage carries a crew of 18 with bags and eskies; a standard minibus does not. Tell us the crew size and whether they are carrying site kit and we size for the luggage, not just the seats.

Gold Coast Airport and the Tweed

Some charter operators do run FIFO flights from Gold Coast Airport, and for those crews the run is short: a coastal collection into Coolangatta and a drop at the terminal's coach area. Tweed and northern NSW crews are collected on the same runs; the border is a line on a map for this work, and we hold the NSW and Queensland accreditation both sides require. Where the crew's employer books the transport centrally we load the roster once and manage changes by exception through a single contact.

Induction, training and site charters

Induction and training weeks bring crews into serviced apartments in Southport, Broadbeach or near the airport, and a daily shuttle between the accommodation and a training provider — whether on the coast, in the Yatala and Ormeau industrial corridor, or in Brisbane — keeps the cohort together and on time. Direct site charters from the coast to the Surat Basin around Chinchilla and Miles, or further to the Bowen Basin, are quoted as multi-day jobs with driver changeovers and overnight positioning shown as their own lines; the national fatigue rules do not allow one driver to do six hours out, a site visit and six hours back in a day, and we plan accordingly.

Shutdown surge and compliance

Shutdowns bring extra crews onto the same early flights and the transport has to scale with it. We plan surge transport backwards from the flight or gate time, hold spare capacity for peak days and give the client a single contact who can move vehicles as flights slip. Driver authorisations, vehicle inspection certificates and insurance certificates are supplied with the quote; site inductions for drivers are arranged where required. The guides to FIFO crew transport planning and driver fatigue rules cover the roster and long-run planning in detail.

Mining Transport in Gold Coast: questions

How early can you collect for the first Brisbane FIFO flights?

As early as the flight needs. Pick-ups from 1.30am at the southern end of the coast are normal for the 4.30am boardings; the driver roster is built around the flight schedule and early-start loading is a line on the quote.

Do you collect crews from Tweed Heads and northern NSW?

Yes. Tweed and northern NSW pick-ups are on the same runs, and we hold the accreditation both states require for charter work across the border.

Can you run direct to a mine site from the Gold Coast?

Yes, as a multi-day charter with driver changeovers or an overnight stop where the fatigue rules require it. For most crews the flight from Brisbane is cheaper; we will tell you which applies.

Can you handle roster changes and swing swaps?

Yes. The roster is loaded once and changes come through a single contact. Same-day changes are managed where capacity allows and we say immediately if it does not.
